Living My Best Creative Life
I am fascinated with layers, texture and surfaces. I love to create layers with papers, paint and glazes. I often incorporate words, symbols or asemic writing in my work. I rarely set out to create something that I envision, rather, as I make marks and shapes on the surface I react to what I’ve done and try to let the painting, print or collage emerge. I try to let the artwork guide me. In this way I feel my work is a reflection of my inner self.
I started the Reclaimed Hearts Series during the COVID pandemic. Looking around my studio I noticed I had quite a few collages that no longer served me or reflected who I am. I reclaimed the artwork by painting over them, creating richly textured surfaces as a base. Then I set about creating hearts - letting each heart reveal itself to me by closely monitoring my reactions and feelings about each new mark I made.
Around this same time I began experimenting with mono printing using a soft gel plate, which enables the user to make prints without a traditional printing press. The Vessel Series of monoprints is a group of womb-like images, celebrating our innate creativity.
